La Chèvre D’or Hotel Review: Tatler Travel Guide 2022

Hugging the cliff above the bay of Èze Bord de Mer, this place is synonymous with extravagance and one of the best views of any restaurant. It therefore takes a special soul like Thierry Naidu, of Mauritian origin – who for 22 years was the general manager of this magical property – to continue to add a sparkle of superlative to it, and to keep his restaurant-with-rooms the discreet and beautiful star (including two hard-forbidden Michelin stars) that he is. It was adored by Walt Disney – who is largely responsible for transforming it from a destination restaurant into a small hotel – and over the years it has grown with the purchase of various nearby buildings and homes, to which Thierry added a few other infinity pools. There’s no shortage of fans – so many brides want their wedding here – but despite the demand, he knows how to keep it from being overcrowded and overbuilt. Thierry, who was first trained in the kitchen, is the embodiment of good taste: evidenced by his successful quest to hire Arnaud Faye as the new chef of La Chèvre d’Or. Today, the restaurant continues to welcome glamorous guests, all drawn to Faye’s exquisite cuisine. And alongside them, long-time sommelier Philippe Magne has that little something extra too. What distinguishes this high-level team is its kindness, elegance and generosity of spirit.
