Ibiza Gran Hotel review: A serene and artsy stay in Ibiza, Spain

Why book?

An alluring and peaceful spot, Ibiza Gran is a laid-back slice of island life that’s deceptively close to the bustling city center.

Hotel address: Passeig Joan Carles I, 17, 07800 Eivissa, Illes Balears, Spain
Price from: rooms from £235

Set the scene

Something akin to Gatsby’s green light, towering above Dalt Vila (Ibiza’s Old Town) – a giant flashing ‘C’ beckons revelers and hedonistic thrill seekers across the bay, announcing the hotel’s casino. But for those lucky enough to stay here, the “C” stands for so much more. Creative interiors, quiet atmosphere, classy restaurants, composed staff; all this is strictly here. Despite being a 10-minute walk from the Old Town’s nightlife hub, the hotel feels wrapped in a blanket of peace.

The backstory

Committed to offering something different on an island with plenty of smart hotel options, Ibiza Gran is a cultural haven for adults. Owned by a clan of renowned hoteliers across Spain, it is Ibiza’s first art hotel. Inside, contemporary artists have created more than 400 bespoke works. In the lobby, Majorcan artist Tomeu Ventayol’s giant cream oval contrasts with the tall, square-shaped atrium. On the first floor, a rope and stone installation by Toni Esteva was designed as an ode to the Mediterranean, and in our suite, a Rodin-style bronze sculpture by Luis Martin Duque brings the ambiance of a gallery to art in the bedroom.

The rooms

Eager to cater to every guest’s whims, the hotel has 12 different room configurations. The most basic option is a Premium, located on the first and second floors of the hotel and overlooking the busy streets of Talamanca, with a king-size bed, rainfall shower, and ultra-deep soaking tub. Those looking for private pools should book a Superior Suite, with indoor and outdoor hot tubs and a terrace overlooking the pool and garden. Or book one of the rooftop lofts for an expansive space spread over two floors, with two open-plan bedrooms, living room, terrace, private heated hydromassage pool and sun terrace with shady olive trees. Our favorite was the Superior Pool Suite: not too big, not too small, located just around the corner from the hotel, so the view of Dalt Vila harbor is uninterrupted from the private pool.
