Dining area in Capelongue, Provence

For families?

Yes and no. Although Capelongue has plenty of junior suites and duplexes with connecting bedrooms and/or beds for couples with kids, restless toddlers or bored teenagers may not connect with the soothing calm factor. On the other hand, they won’t go hungry – both restaurants have kids’ menus, and the Capelongue Café serves kid-friendly snacks like pizza, fries and ice cream all day long.

Everything from the bergamot-scented bath products in large recyclable brown bottles to the selection of drinks – locally brewed beer (added with lavender honey and saffron or lemons from Menton), organic wines and champagne – are part of the Capelongue’s policy of favoring the local. sourced products, whether it’s a decorative clay pitcher or what’s on the menu. Even the earth-worshipping signature spa massage – a fragrant blend of Kalmar products and pure local oils – leaves you smelling like the chef’s herb garden.

Accessibility for people with reduced mobility

Not always ideal with sloping terrain; room 200, on the ground floor of the Bastide and room 500, opposite, at La Bergerie are the only two easily accessible.

Is it worth it?

If your wish list includes ‘rejuvenate’, ‘unpretentious’, ‘fabulous cuisine’, ‘eco’ and ‘spa’, Capelongue is worth every penny. Nightlife can be limited to stargazing in the open sky or tasting a Corsican tangerine brandy on your terrace, but let’s face it, that’s precisely why you came. This is probably not the place for antique lovers who prefer a plush velvet armchair to an abundance of clean blonde wood, rattan chairs, and nearly identical contemporary furniture. But in a nutshell, the Beaumier Group’s streamlined luxury reimagining of Provence is relaxed and more affordable than some of the area’s older, swankier five-star hotels.
