Tener-chic? This hotel offers sunshine and refinement.
Tenerife is known for its abundant sunshine, cheap flights from the UK and cheap and cheerful holiday packages. He was not known for his chic. Until recently. Over the past decade, many luxury hotel openings, sophisticated restaurants have been awarded Michelin stars and wellness-focused retreat offerings.
At the forefront of this is the luxury, adults-only Royal Hideaway Corales Beach. (The family friendly Royal Hideaway Corales Suites is next door). Located in Adeje, 20 minutes from the airport, Corales beach is an impressive sight. Rising from the hill, the all-white design is reminiscent of an elegant ocean liner. It feels fresh and modern and grand, but not overwhelmingly so. It’s an easy walk to La Caleta – local shops and restaurants on a scenic waterfront. The black sand beach is a five minute walk away.

Rooms and facilities
Each bedroom has stunning sea views with a generous balcony. The beds are so big you can easily lose your partner and the bedrooms are equally spacious. The bathrooms are luxurious and equipped with Temple Spa products. There is a tub big enough for two and a walk-in shower.
Outside there are two swimming pools, one in the gardens with sea views, the other a spectacular rooftop pool which has a beach club vibe. In the neighboring sister hotel you will find a free well-equipped gym and a spa with an outdoor swimming pool. Think hydromassage jets, steam rooms and saunas, plus heated stone beds to lie on — though you must have paid for a spa treatment to enjoy them.
Food and drink
The breakfast buffet is a slick operation so although it is busy it never turns into a fight over buns. There are every culinary option imaginable – from healthy to decadent. And the frothy coffees keep coming to the beat. There is a Michelin starred restaurant in the hotel and more refined cuisine at the sister hotel. These restaurants have London levels of sophistication, but, be warned, it comes at a price. Oh, and dress requirements mean that men have to bring long pants to dine there. There’s a buffet dinner option for those opting for all-inclusive, which is fine, but guests we spoke to said after four or five days the novelty wore off. For cheaper dining options, you can easily walk a few minutes to the beachfront restaurants in La Caleta.
The cocktails on the rooftop pool deserve a mention – they look as good as they taste – with an Instagram-worthy presentation. Sipping them, listening to the soft sounds of the DJ and looking out over the infinity pool to the ocean is heavenly. Much like strolling along the waterfront to decide which restaurant will do your trade.
